About K.G.H.S?

Founded in the year 2014, Kigali Greater Heights International School (KGH-IS) has been steadily growing from day care, nursery to grade 6 as a private school offering only the Rwanda national curriculum. Being a Christian based school, students and staff discipline has earned the school high accolades among parents and the community. The performance of our school has been among the best in the country. From the year 2020, the school was accredited to become an internationally Cambridge accredited school now proud to be serving around 350 learners. Our parents, teachers, administrative staff, support staff and learners, now come from 6 different countries in the region and beyond.

Our main campus is located in Masoro cell, Ndera sector, Gasabo district in Kigali city, adjacent to the Adventist University of central Africa. This Adventist University is home to the Adventist School of Medicine (ASOME) from which some of our parents work. We are proud to have our school campus on a piece of well-located environmentally friendly land, with appealing buildings and a rush green environment of fruit trees. Our well-planned buildings are well placed in an educationally friendly vicinity. The classrooms, laboratories and other study facilities. Each child sits on an individual chair, with moveable tables of two learners to allow space for group work in a competence-based education system. Our school facilities include a Resource Center (RC), an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Lab, Science laboratories, a Music and Art room, and Sports facilities like volley ball, basketball, netball and an array of indoor games.

Our school structure is designed to accommodate three separate sections-

  1. a) The Nursery Section with one section of nursey one to nursery three. This section uses the French language as the mode of tutorship and assessment. All methodologies of study and assessment are aligned with the Cambridge International curriculum as well as the Rwandan National curriculum.
  2. b) The Primary Division has two sections- i) the Lower Primary Section (for Grade 1 to Grade 3). This section also uses French as a language of tutorship with English as a Second Language as one of the subjects. English increases as one goes to grade 3. This section also uses the Cambridge International assessment, with the French DELF Prime and DELF Junior being the assessment for the French as a Foreign Language; and, ii) the Upper Primary Section (of grade 4-grade 6), use predominantly English as language as the language of tutorship with Cambridge International assessment. French as a second Language is studied as a subject. It is in this section where majority of learners transition to DELF Junior which continues into the secondary section. The KGHS Secondary Division with the Junior Secondary is opening soon, since we have completed the science laboratory facilities.

KGH-IS is accredited to offer the national curriculum program as well for those who don’t continue with the Cambridge International Assessment program.

In Kigali Greater Heights International School, teaching is an important and responsible profession, whose members have a profound and lasting influence on the development and positive life chances of our 21st century learners. As we teach with compassion, kindness, collegiality and cooperation, we are well aware that, ā€œeconomic and social wellbeing of any country, and the success of every other occupation, relies in no small part on the knowledge, skill, judgment, and commitment of teachersā€.

ACADEMIC APPROACH

Kigali Greater Heights -International School faculty, staff and board of Governors believe that it is important to adopt a learning model that can benefit all students who enter the school. In order to provide a rigorous college preparatory curriculum for our students, we believe that students should master the material they learn in and outside the classroom. We do not want students to move through a curriculum without mastering smaller units of study. It is also equally essential for students to master-fully anchor what they have learned in the classroom through meaningful experiential learning activities, which is the academic cornerstone at Kigali Greater Heights – International School.
